Ngillan Faal – Gbadebo

Senior Architect and Urbanist

Ngillan Faal-Gbadebois a Senior Architect at the award-winning firm, Kate Otten Architects based in Johannesburg, South Africa, where she is responsible for a portfolio of innovative, value generation projects for a range of clients, from multi-nationals and institutions to NGO’s. A multi- disciplinary built environment professional with over two decades experience, she has a background in urbanization, urban regeneration and climate resilience in the EMEA region. Prior to joining Kate Otten Architects, Ngillan was a Programme Manager at LEAD International working to build leadership capacity around sustainable development issues with Africa Member Programmes and undertaking high level research on the impact of climate change in African cities with a number of multi-lateral and UK government institutions. Her passion for using architecture as a mechanism for improving livelihoods, was sparked whilst working with Levitt Bernstein Associates, as an architect, focusing on revitalising London’s decaying inner cities, urban regeneration, master planning and social housing. A registered architect in the UK and South Africa, she holds degrees in architecture and urbanisation from the London School of Economics (LSE), University College London, University of East London, and the University of Sheffield in the UK. Active in architectural and urban planning education, Ngillan has acted as a curriculum reviewer and external examiner at the Universities of Witwatersrand (WITS) and the Graduate School of Architecture, University of Johannesburg.
