Mr Abdou A B Njie

Mr. Abdou A.B. Njie a retired Governor of the Central Bank of The Gambia and retired senior civil servant of the Government of The Gambia, holds a Bachelor of Science, Honors Degree in Economics from the University of London and Post Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Economics from the University of Reading. In the course of his professional career, Mr. Njie has received short-term advanced courses in areas such as Monetary Economics, Financial Management, Business Management, Project Planning and Appraisal, Policy Analysis, Strategic Planning and Development Administration. Mr. Njie has had a distinguished career in the public service, spanning over twenty-five years until 1994 as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Economic Planning and Industrial Development and as Governor of the Central Bank of the Gambia. Mr. Njie was instrumental in introducing the flexible exchange rate system within the framework of an IMF programme which brought about price and exchange stability in the late 1980’s Mr. Njie has during the past twenty years worked as Senior Management Consultant at Sahel Invest Management International, a leading consulting firm in the Gambia. As Senior and Lead Consultant, Mr. Njie led and gained extensive, varied and in-depth experiences and expertise in many areas, including socio economic research, policy analysis and formulation, development of strategic plans, sector studies, institutional and human resources development studies, staff audits, institutional review and assessment of major para-public organizations, feasibility studies and development of business plans, socio-economic impact assessment studies of major donor funded projects. Mr. Njie served in various Boards and Committees both in the public and private sectors, including the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), The Gambia Investment Promotion and Free Zones Agency (GIPFZA), Central Government’s Directorate of Internal Audit. Until recently, Mr. Njie was one of the Commissioners of the Gambia Competition and Consumer Protection Commission. Currently he is a Board Director at the Sahel Bank of Industry and Commerce (BSIC) Gambia Ltd. He is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Prime Insurance Company Ltd and the Board of Governors of Daddy Jobe Comprehensive School.
