Ida Denise Drameh, one of the most respected and experienced lawyers in The Gambia, has over 38 years of professional practical experience in all areas of Gambian jurisprudence, with extensive litigation experience and appellate practice in both civil and criminal law. Ida a member of the Bar in Nigeria and The Gambia, having been called to both in 1980, graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Lagos in 1979 and with a Master of Laws degree from Cambridge University in 1984, regularly appears in courts up to the Supreme Court of The Gambia. Her practice represents and provides legal advice to many international law firms. She is the external counsel for several companies including hotels, banks, and other companies, inter alia. Her practice acts for and provides legal advice and opinions to several international and local companies, banks and firms on tax, banking, commercial and finance issues relevant to The Gambia, Gambian law and other legal matters as they arise. Ida also advises embassies and international organizations and has done so for several years and is a regular contributor to World Bank’s Doing Business yearly series. Ida was one of five Commissioners appointed under the Competition Act of The Gambia and acted as Commissioner for six years from the establishment of the Competition Commission until 2014. Ida has conducted full legal due diligence exercises and provided legal advice and services in relation to sales of two banks in The Gambia and other businesses in The Gambia. Throughout her many years of practice, she has trained many Gambian lawyers who are now also successful in their right and has frequently lectured on various aspects of law and the Gambian legal system to many audiences including members of the judiciary.
